CABO SAN LUCAS MEXICO: THE BEST THINGS YOU CAN DO
Cabo San Lucas, located on Mexico’s West Coast, is the most well-known town in Baja California Sur. The town is known not only for its luxury resorts and clubbing scene, but also for the amazing wild life and landscape. This post will tell you what the best activities are in Cabo, and the surrounding areas.
Find a map with the exact location of all places mentioned in this blog post below
1. Visit Lover’s & Divorce Beach
How to get to Lover & Divorce Beach?
The most popular and beautiful beaches in Cabo are these. Only by boat can you reach them from the marina. You pay both directions before you ride, as it’s a shuttle. There are many companies that offer the transfer at the marina and you don’t need to book tickets in advance. Just walk along the marina and you will receive several offers within one minute. You should not pay more than USD 20 for two people and both directions. Usually, they ask for double the amount but you can bargain.
Unfortunately, in the days of Covid you can only spend an hour on each beach. Last pick-up from the beach at 4pm, so plan your visit well in advance.
LOVERS BEACH
Lovers Beach and Divorce beach are right next to each other, but they offer two very different experiences. Lovers Beach has a calm atmosphere, which is perfect for snorkeling and swimming. We had planned to go there, but we only had an hour.
DIVORCE BEACH
Divorce Beach provides the best views of the rock formations, Mt. Solmar is behind you, but the sea here is very rough and high-waved. It’s impossible to swim. You should walk to the rocks at the Divorce beach. You can get a great view of the beach if you climb a little.
But no worries – you don’t have to decide for one option during your stay, you can simply walk between both beaches within a few minutes.
P.S. The names of these beaches are not based on the relationship status of couples . They were given due to the stark contrast between the two sides, despite their close proximity.

2. WATCH THE SUNSET AT SOLMAR BEACH
Solmar Beach, which is close to Divorce Beach but located on the opposite side of Mount Solmar makes it impossible to get from one to the next. Solmar Beach is also a rough beach with amazing sunset views, but you can only reach it on foot if you are not going to Lovers & Divorce Beach. Park your car at the Marina and walk to the beach. It’s impossible to park at the beach because it is surrounded by hotels. Solmar Beach is only accessible by walking through these hotel complexes. Terrasol Beach Resort was chosen because it is a complex of apartment buildings you can walk past without going through a hotel lobby.
The sun will be setting on the right-hand side of the beach, which makes for great pictures because you can have both the ocean and a rock that has houses on it. It looks like Positano, Italy
Bring a blanket, some drinks and a drink to Solmar Beach to watch the sunset.
3. HIKE UP MOUNT SOLMAR
Mount Solmar is located between Divorce Beach & Solmar Beach. You can’t hike to the top on your own because it is on private property. The owner, a dog trainer who is friendly and welcomes public participation in his daily hikes (except on Sundays when he only goes up early in the morning), invites everyone to join him. You can see the exact location on my map! Be on time, as the owner will always open the gate at 8.15am and 4:15pm. He will not let anyone else in after closing the gate due to the roaming dogs.
The hike is short, but it’s intense. It reminds you more of climbing as you go higher! Wear the right shoes. You can see Cabo San Luis, the Sea of Cortez and Divorce Beach, Solmar Beach, right below you. You can get some great perspectives for your photos if you wander around.
The hike is free, but hikers are asked to tip the guide at the end of the hike as a way of saying thank you for showing them the best route and explaining the area.

4. HOP ON BOAT
You can’t visit Cabo San Lucas without taking a boat trip to admire the rock formations, go snorkeling or even see some whales if you are here during the winter. The area, located in the Gulf of California (Sea of Cortez), is a haven for snorkelers and divers. You can see everything here, from sea lions to marlins, dolphins to whales.
We booked our tour through Dive Ninja Expeditions Cabo. I can recommend this company to anyone looking for a team that is professional and cares deeply about their customers and wildlife. It was one of my favourite experiences in Cabo.
The Arch was our first stop. It is the most impressive rock formation in Cabo. The Arch was formed naturally by wind and water and is only visible from a boat. Sea lions can be heard roaring as they relax on the rocks surrounding the arch or dive into the water in search of fish. It’s so cute to see them
On the way to a calm snorkeling spot we cruised along the coast line and watched at least three to four groups of humpback whales! They migrate to the Sea of Cortez from mid November until mid April. If you’re visiting Cabo San Lucas during the peak season from December to March it’s almost guaranteed that you will see some of them jumping out of the water which is a truly impressive spectacle.
Due to Mexican Law it’s not allowed to swim or dive with these gentle giants but no worries – the sea of Cortez is so rich in Maritime Life that you have much more to see! We did a short snorkeling tour close to the coast to watch some corals and colorful fish but if you go a little deeper you can even see marlines, dolphins, mantas and everything else the ocean has to offer. The team of Dive Ninja Expeditions also offers amazing diving tours you shouldn’t miss if you have a diving license or planning to get one
5. VISIT TODOS SANTOS
The weather is sunny in Cabo most of the year, but we had a few rainy days during our trip at the end January. We decided to visit Todos Santos, a nearby town that one of my followers had recommended. Around an hour away by car, Todos Santos is known for its art galleries and artesian shops. It also has some wonderful little restaurants worth visiting.
Cabo San Lucas is much more modern and has a lot less tourists. The city itself is smaller and quieter. In the historic center of Todos Santos, with its colorful houses, and as you stroll through the local boutiques and art galleries, you can still experience the true Mexican culture.
We stopped at a family-run restaurant for lunch. The BEST fish and shrimp tacos I’ve ever eaten! So make sure to visit “Tacos y Mariscos El Sinaloense” for a lunch break!

6. Visit the beach at La PAZ and Balandra Beach
If you are planning a full-day trip from Cabo, head to La Paz and spend the day at the amazing Balandra Beach. It is only 2,5 hours away from Cabo. I’d recommend spending a few nights in La Paz, as it is a charming city with many restaurants and a lovely promenade on the beach. It’s also a popular place for whale shark snorkeling tours.
Since I have never heard of Balandra Beach, I was surprised when my Mexican followers told me I couldn’t leave Cabo without visiting this beach. It is considered one of the best beaches in Mexico.
Due to Covid the entry is strictly limited so they only allow a 150 people per day at the main Balandra Beach. When we arrived around 11 am (the beach opens at 10 am) it’s been already full cause most people get in line with their car already at 8 or 9 am to make sure to get in.
But anyway we found a way to reach it: Following the street further there’s a little off-road parking lot where a path leads up to one of the hills surrounding Balandra Beach. I marked it in the map below! If you walk the way up and follow the path around the hill you can walk down to a hidden empty beach. We made a stop here and had it all to ourselves! Since the water of this area is super shallow you can simply walk through it (or close to the rocks if you don’t wanna get wet) to reach the next beach which is already located in the beautiful Balandra Bay. The Balandra Beach itself is not really spectacular – BUT what makes it so special is the turquoise bay located between the mountains, surrounded mangrove forests and with calm turquoise blue and shallow water which looks impressive from above! If you wanna relax and enjoy the sun we even found the first beach more idyllic cause it was absolutely empty and didn’t had umbrellas and sun beds like the actual Balandra Beach has.
