You Can Travel The World For Free (Yes, Really)

Getting Paid to Travel in Norway

After 10 years of traveling around the world, I’ve been asked a lot about how to make money while traveling. Here is my detailed answer.

After many years of hardwork, becoming a travel blogger has become a reality.

I can understand your curiosity. Is it possible to earn money by traveling around the world?

There’s more to my life than I let on. It may seem like I’m always on vacation, but it’s not. I have adventures in places like Costa Rica and Morocco, Iceland, Antarctica, and Afghanistan. But there’s much more going on behind the scenes. I have to earn a living somehow!

How do I earn money? How can I finance my travels? Do I have sponsors or do I need them? Who pays me to travel around the world?

It’s possible. You’re about to see how.

How do I fund my adventure?

You can earn money by traveling the world.

I will also share some other travel-friendly job opportunities at the end.

Some of my income sources are more complex than others, and they can change year-to-year. In casual conversations, it can take a long time to explain to someone how I earn money to travel.

I will often just say “travel writer” and “photographer”, to avoid lengthy discussions. I’m a full-time nomad.

Today, I will try to answer the question that everyone is asking.

Learn how I have funded my travels over the last 10 years and how I use my blog to earn money while traveling the world.

Get Paid to Travel the World

In 2009, I began to plan my travels and quit my job. Two friends inspired me. They were both backpackers who traveled very cheaply and lived on less money than what it costs to live in America.

Their photos and stories of exotic locations around the globe had me completely enthralled. Then they had me reading inspirational books, travel quotes. I was completely hooked!

At the time I did not realize that you could travel for less than $1,000 a month. I was completely new to the concept of budget travel.

Ferenc, my friend, was backpacking in Southeast Asia and earning money with Google Adsense.

My friend Katie worked on private yachts in the role of a chef. She travelled around the Caribbean and Mediterranean islands.

If they can make money like this, I could too!

I don’t have a trust fund, and my family isn’t rich (by American standards). According to US stats, I was a lower-middle-class guy living in South Florida with two jobs and earning around $30k per annum.

How can I save enough money to live on for an entire year and travel the world?

I have downsized my lifestyle in order to live on less.

I had just paid off my car and decided to sell it. I cancelled my Netflix, Netflix, and gym membership. I bought a used commuter bike, a rain jacket, and a bus ticket to get around.

I sold almost everything I owned. Goodbye DJ turntables, goodbye stereo, goodbye sports equipment.

I also stopped going to nightclubs, bars and restaurants. I made a lot of rice & pasta at home. I made my own sandwiches at lunch.

I rented a room in a suburban 2 bedroom house for $400. I shared it with two other people.

Over the course of one year, I was able to save $7000 by taking these simple (but tedious) actions. It was a lot of work and not very “fun”.
