SUMMER IS THE BEST TIME TO VISIT A LESS CROWDED EUROPEAN DESTINATION
Everyone loves Europe during the summer. We all love Europe in summer, a bit too much. The Americans flock in their millions to Europe during the few months when the weather is hot on the continent. You’ll have to fight through the crowds in order to see the Trevi Fountain, or enjoy your trip to Buckingham Palace.
Where does this leave those who wish to travel in Europe during the summer, but do not want the chaos that is associated with popular hotspots like France, Germany or Spain? Even countries that were once considered up-and coming, such as Portugal and Croatia, are now crowded in the summer.
There are many destinations in Europe that remain undiscovered by the masses of tourists. Albania, Lithuania, and Slovenia, among others, are incredible destinations in their own right, but also have fewer summer tourists.
Albania: The beautiful beaches
Albania is the best place to go if you’re looking for a trip to Europe that will be filled with fascinating history, diverse culture, breathtaking nature, or delicious food.
Albania is not just overlooked by Americans in favor of their neighbors (like Greece, to the south, and Italy across the ocean), but it’s never even been on the radars of most Americans. It’s a pity. This friendly and safe country is the perfect summer destination.
This country has a lot to offer, from the Julian Alps mountains to the pristine beach. If you are short on time, visit beaches such as Himare, Gjipe, and Dhermi.
Lithuania: for the quirky cities and sites
Lituania.travel states that less than 55,000 Americans will visit Lithuania in 2022, and the country only saw 1.1 million tourists for the entire year. If you want to experience a unique European vacation, Lithuania should be at the top of your list.
Vilnius is a quirky capital with all the amenities you would expect of a European capital. As expected, you’ll find castles, grand cathedrals, lush parks, and an Old Town that is pedestrian-friendly. Vilnius and Lithuania are great because of the unexpected. You’ll also find Uzupis, a self-proclaimed independent republic within Vilnius. Uzupis, a bohemian artists’ society, is full of quirky charm and fascinating historical background.
Visit some of the other unique destinations in the country. Trakai, a castle perched on a beautiful lake, is an idyllic destination. The Devil’s Museum is just as creepy as it sounds, but also entertaining. The Hill of Witches, a wooded outdoor museum of wooden statues located in one of Lithuania’s most relaxed destinations, is an outdoor forested museum.
Slovenia: The Lakes and Mountains
Slovenia should be on the list of summer vacation destinations for Americans. Slovenia is a great destination for those who enjoy inland nature. Its lakes and mountains are a unique experience.
Slovenia’s National Parks are best known for Lake Bled, its island with a church on top and the lake itself. There are many lesser-known places with equally stunning nature beyond Lake Bled.
Lake Bohinj is a popular summer destination for Slovenians. This lake is ideal for all types of water sports. You can also visit the fairytale town of Bovec, which offers white water rafting and other activities like hiking, kayaking and climbing.
