Explore The Hidden Gems Of Milos, Greece

Want to enjoy the splendor and beauty of Greece without the tourist traps and crowds? Milos is a tranquil island that you should not miss.

The island is still relatively undiscovered, and gives you a sense of a paradise that Greece used to be before tourism took over the Aegean. You can’t miss out on anything in Milos. From the beaches to restaurants, everything is worth seeing. The island is small and can be explored in just a few days, but I promise you, it will make you want to stay much longer.

Put On Your Helmet

Quad or ATV is the best way to discover Milos. There are many parts of Milos that are inaccessible by car. To reach those hard-to-reach, beautiful beaches, your vehicle will need to be able to handle gravel roads and dirt tracks.

The open roads of Milos are usually safer than the congested and winding roads on islands such as Santorini.

Don’t Relax, But Embrace Adventure

Milos beaches don’t have the cabanas and lounge chairs that Mykonos is famous for. Milos beaches are less sunbathing-friendly, but they offer a unique experience.

Visit the Moon Beach and experience a lunar landscape. Tsigrado Beach is a tiny, sliver-sized beach that can only be reached by a ladder between the cliffs. Kayak or boat tours will take you on a tour to the beaches of the southern coast, which are inaccessible from land. You can feel the hot sulfur pockets bubbling up beneath the seafloor. You can even order fish cooked in clay pans that are buried under the volcanic sand. The temperature can reach up to 199°F.

Do not miss a trip to Kleftiko. This cove is surrounded by white volcanic rocks, and the sea caves were once a hideout for pirates. You can snorkel in the turquoise crystal waters and explore caves that are only accessible by boat. The Aegean’s largest island is Poliaigos, which was named for the goats who once roamed the island.

Enjoy the best sunsets and local bites of the mediterranean

Milos has some of the most stunning sunsets you’ll ever see in the Mediterranean. Other islands boast about their incredible sunsets, and they are, indeed, amazing. Grab a cocktail and head to Plaka’s capital to see the most panoramic views on the island. You may be able to watch the sun set below the Aegean sea on a clear night.

After your meal, you can enjoy a delicious meal in one of Plaka’s many culinary hotspots. I would never recommend that you skip the Greek Salad with goat cheese from the local area or the Moussaka. This traditional Greek eggplant dish will make you fall in love, whether or not you are an eggplant lover.

End the evening with a Greek Mojito. It’s one of my favorite cocktails. The drink is made from lime, mint, and mastiha – a liqueur with a pine flavor extracted by the Mediterranean mastic tree. Be aware that this drink is only available in a handful of restaurants and bars. Is this Milos’ best kept secret? I don’t know, but I am glad I found it.
